Wow - it has been a while since I've posted. Our summer just flew by so now that we are back to a semi-normal schedule, I can post a great birthday party I had for my older son. He is CRAZY about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, so what better way to celebrate with his friends then by having a SUPER COOL Diary of a Wimpy Kid party!!!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><span style="font-size: large;">Having a memorable kick-butt party doesn't </span></em><em><span style="font-size: large;">have to </span></em><em><span style="font-size: large;">cost an arm and leg, just </span></em><em><span style="font-size: large;">use your creativity to have a one-of-a-kind party </span></em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><span style="font-size: large;">that your child will NEVER forget!!!</span></em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The fun started with an invitation that looked like one of the book covers to the series. I found the blank invite by googling it and saved it as a picture and then just added a text box with the party info. The wording was pretty cool too - "Rodrick may rule, but you know what's great? Michael's turning 8 please join us to celebrate!" And of course on the bottom of the invite, I had to add Rowley's famous line "ZOO WEE MAMA!!!!" </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Then I went to one of my favorite stores, Michael's craft store, and picked up a mulit-pack of these DIY keychains (with a 40% off coupon of course). I printed out pics of Greg and Rodrick and simply cut them to fit.</span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Then I picked up plain white bags (also at Michael's, a separate day with a coupon lol). I attached the keychains to the bag with some cool ribbon, and attached a picture of Greg with each child's name to the bag - viola! Instant goody bags that everyone LOVED! And before everyone could pick up their goody bags, they also kind of served as decorations!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I also used printouts of the characters from the books all over as decorations. </span></div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Below I simply bought some large clear bowls from my local dollar </span></div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">store and attached pics of the characters on all sides.</span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Then I bought a pre-made banner (see below), also from the dollar store, and simply attached all different characters' pics to the banner. If you wanted to, you could also very easily make this banner by cutting out triangles and attaching them with ribbon or string.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">To serve as placecards, I got sentence practice strips (I'm sure there is a better word for these, but that is what I call them lol). I also bought happy birthday decorations and personalized them with pictures from the books. All of the pictures can be found online and also on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid website. There you will also find many more great ideas to add to your party.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">If any of you have boys, then you know that they LOVE to be active constantly!!! So I made sure we had plenty of games and activities to keep them going! One of the games that everyone really enjoyed was Diary of a Wimpy Kid Matchup. I used my extra sentence strips and wrote quotes from the books, and then I printed a bunch of pictures of the characters. We split the kids up into 3 teams and it was a race to see who could correctly matchup the quote with which character said it. There were plenty of laughs and cheering on with this game!</span> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgitW81HTY_BMl9QQMZ00Nl6GkvgBWcC0TD21YBi8681UIOQnIO1lagwZYL2lMRKovz4J1nTHCuo6e4F94Cn8ALORXxRy0lnzfkRcKBBqBiv8sjTK1DO26l9GsxcwJvKcHxZewMFHiuXtI1/s1600/097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgitW81HTY_BMl9QQMZ00Nl6GkvgBWcC0TD21YBi8681UIOQnIO1lagwZYL2lMRKovz4J1nTHCuo6e4F94Cn8ALORXxRy0lnzfkRcKBBqBiv8sjTK1DO26l9GsxcwJvKcHxZewMFHiuXtI1/s320/097.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">After the Matchup Game, we had a scavenger hunt. I had 10 clues hiding throughout the house and outside (luckily the weather held up that day). After they all worked together as a team and got all 10 clues, they got tickets that they were then able to hand in for their goody bags! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">It kept everyone occupied and the scavenger hunt ended up outside </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">where we did cake and wrapped things up, so to speak. hehehe </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"></span> </div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">All in all it was a wonderful party that my son and his friends still talk about to this day! I hope I gave you some thrifty ideas on how to host a great birthday party on a budget!!! Enjoy!!!!</span></td></tr>

How cute is this? </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All you need to get started is wax paper, a bag of mini pretzels and a bag of mini pretzel sticks. Then head out to your local craft store (in my case that is Michael's craft store) and get melting chocolates (I did dark for the body and head and then got purple for the wings, but you can do any color you want). Ooh, and don't forget some cute sprinkle to add to the wings! Michael's also sells these great pastry bags that you can use directly in the microwave to melt the chocolate to use for these tasty treats! The key to this project is having everything ready to go before you melt the chocolate (the chocolate sets up fairly quickly, so you have to work quickly!) </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
First I laid out my mini pretzels on wax paper back to back like the above picture.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Next I broke the mini pretzel sticks in half and had them ready to go to use for the antennae.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Then I piped the chocolate to create the "body" of the caterpillar, which also holds the pretzels together, and at the top I made a circle for the "head" of the butterfly. As soon as you make the head, you have to put the mini pretzels sticks in that chocolate for the anntenae so they stick.</div>

My suggestion as far as transporting them is to put a layer of wax paper </div>

OK, so I found this on pinterest and I have to say I LOVE it - you can turn any of your words into tons of shapes. The site is called Tagxedo (<a href="http://www.tagxedo.com/">http://www.tagxedo.com/</a> ). You can basically write almost any amount of words and then choose a shape and it will do it for you! Check out the great one I made above - I plan on framing it and hanging it in our house. Also makes for a thrifty but thoughtful gift idea - think weddings, anniversaries, or even baby stuff! Enjoy! </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Looking for a creative, interesting school project to do with your child for their 100th Day of School? My son loves Spongebob, so it was a no-brainer when it came time to do his project. He knew he wanted to do something involving his favorite cartoon character. He also loves Skittles candy so we decided to use both to make this wonderful 100th Day project. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We started with a small cardboard box, and covered it with yellow construction paper. I drew circles on paper for the eyes and had my son cut them out. He also cut out the pineapple and jellyfish to use for the project. My son had counted out 100 yellow skittles (and ate the other colors while we went along lol), and the only time I didn't let him help was when I hot-glued the skittles to the box (those glue guns get mighty hot!). Spongebob's "arms" are just extra cardboard cut into rectangles and covered with the same yellow paper we used for his body. We also used extra cardboard for the base, which we covered with foil.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I let him write Happy 100 Day on paper, and then cut it out and attached it to the jellyfish. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is definitely one of my "go-to" recipes when I want to make a ton of appetizers. You can make these ahead of time and freeze them - then just pop as many as you want onto a baking sheet and into a preheated 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes, and in no time you will have delicious snacks/appetizers for your guests. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These would be a great addition to any Superbowl Sunday menu!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>Ingredients</u>:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>3 cups of Bisquik<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">®</span> mix</li>
<li>1 pound of uncooked bulk sausage (out of casing)</li>
<li>4 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (16 oz.)</li>
<li>1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese</li>
<li>1/2 cup milk</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves</li>
<li>1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley or 1/2 teaspoon dired parsley</li>
<li>BBQ sauce or chili sauce for dipping (optional)</li>
</ul>
<div>
<u>Directions</u>:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Preheat oven to 350 degrees. </li>
<li>Lightly grease bottom and sides of a jelly roll pan.</li>
<li>In a large bowl, stir together all ingredients, except BBQ sauce, using hands or spoon (I like to use plastic gloves and mix by hand). </li>
<li>After mixed together, shape into 1 inch balls and place on jelly roll pan.</li>
<li>Bake 20-25 minutes or until browned.</li>
<li>Serve warm with dipping sauce.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div style="color: #353535; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Want to make these savory cheese balls ahead? Your options are many! You can:</span></div>
<li style="color: #353535;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Cover and refrigerate <i>unbaked</i> balls up to 24 hours. Bake as directed.</span></li>
<li style="color: #353535;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Cover and freeze <i>unbaked</i> balls up to 1 month. Heat oven to 350ºF. Place frozen balls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until brown.</span></li>
<li style="color: #353535;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Bake as directed; cover and freeze up to 1 month. Heat oven to 350ºF. Place frozen balls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until heated through.</span></li>
<li style="color: #353535;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Bake as directed; cover and freeze up to 1 month. Place 6 frozen balls on microwavable plate. Loosely cover with waxed paper. Microwave on High 45 seconds to 1 minute or until heated through.</span></li>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These are the scrapbook cases from <br />Michael's on sale for $4.99 each (reg. $8.99 each).</td></tr>

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img height="320" src="http://www.toysrus.com/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-7588894enh-z6.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="320" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the case Toys R Us sells for $13.99 (not including the legos shown in the case), and it does include a small base, <br />which retails for $4.99, so the case alone would still come to $9.99.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /><div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This week in Michael's craft stores, they have scrapbook cases on sale for $4.99 each, which would be great for storing your children's legos. If your children are anything like mine, then they live and breathe legos, and those little tiny pieces can get all over the place! LOL Why not organize them while not breaking the bank? You could even color coordinate according to the lego colors (the scrapbook cases usually come in a variety of colors). This size case should fit the small square lego bases in them as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To make these even more special, buy some stickers for your children to decorate them with, or some paint markers to write their names on their very own LEGO cases! For this price, you simply can't beat it!</div>

LOVE this idea and totally going to do this for next year. Take a tomato cage and put it upside down. Then wrap string lights starting at the top all the way to the bottom and you'll have yourself an adorable light-up Christmas tree lawn decoration. What's even better is you can get a couple of landscaping fabric "staples" - I call them staples because they look like huge staples that you use to hold down landscaping fabric - and use those to secure the "tree" in whatever spot you'd like on your lawn.</div>

</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't even know where to begin, mostly because I still cannot understand why someone would shoot his way into a school and heinously murder helpless children and staff of an elementary school. I don't think any of us will fully understand why someone would do this, and this pain that we all feel as a nation will never fully go away, it may lessen with time, but we will never forget what was done. We will never forget the faces of the innocent children whose lives were just beginning and ended way too soon. We will never forget the staff of the school who woke up and went to do the jobs they loved, working with children. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Over the past couple years, we have seen many indescribable tragedies that have shaken us, but for me personally, this one hits close to home and is the worst I've ever seen. I have two beautiful children, aged 5 and 7, that I would give my life for, as any parent would. And to think that someone would willingly hurt them just takes my breath away. Where do we draw the line? Now we can't even feel safe sending our children to school? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Many people say "What is this world coming to?" One of things we need to do, as difficult as it is, is to live our lives the way we always have, and let our children have their innocence. As parents it is our job to shield our children from these things as much as we possibly can. Of course they will hear about it to some degree, but we cannot let our children and ourselves stop living and enjoying our time on this earth, for we don't know which day is our last. We cannot let our freedom and faith get taken away by a monster who doesn't value life. We have to inform our children of bad things that could and do happen in life, but we have to make sure to do it in a way that children would understand. Gone are the days of letting our children be as carefree as we once were. I remember as a child walking around the corner to the candy store with my friends at a very young age, just as all the other children in the neighborhood did. There were always neighbors outside and tons of children outside playing. And none of us worried about a thing, except for who was going to be "it" in the game of tag; or who was getting picked next on a team for kickball. We were young and carefree and had not a care in the world. Unfortunately times have changed and we need to give our children the knowledge of bad things to help keep them safe.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are others that say "How could God let this happen?" God didn't let this happen, in my opinion the devil did, but God was right there by those little angels when they met him at the gates of heaven. They are safe now in His hands. Unfortunately since the start of time there has been evil, but there has also been good. Many more children and staff could have died that day if certain staff members didn't go above and beyond to save lives. The first responders didn't even know what they were walking into when they entered the building, but they too saved many lives just by the monster ending his own upon hearing police enter the building. Of course that doesn't lessen the sorrow and heartache that we all feel for the people who perished on that day, but it leaves us with a little glimmer of hope that good will ALWAYS prevail over evil in some way. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The only thing I can say about this tragic event is that every day I look at my children and thank God that I have them. I always did that, but now even more than ever I feel lucky to have them to hug and kiss. Even when they are testing my patience, as children often do, I find myself lucky that I can calmly talk to them and guide them through life. There is no greater gift than the gift of parenthood. God bless the community residing near Sandy Hook Elementary, and God bless the friends and family of the deceased. We will rise and prevail and be a better nation.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I just had to share this wonderful idea from <a href="http://smallnotebook.org/2009/11/28/advent-wreath-from-the-kitchen/">smallnotebook.org</a>. After getting a request for ideas on advent wreaths, I thought this idea was easy, beautiful and different! You simply start with a bundt pan, add some glass votives (which can be found at your local dollar store), place some candles in the votives, and surround the votives with cranberries - instant advent wreath! And you could definitely keep this one a little traditional by using 3 purple votives and 1 pink votive. Also what you fill it with is up to you, cranberries are cute, but think potpourri, pine cones, small ornaments, etc. The possibilities are endless!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last but certainly not least, this advent wreath would be great for the children to make with you and best of all there is no worry about fire because it is made entirely out of construction paper! Have all the members of your family trace their hands on green construction paper and cut out. Then attach the hands to a paper plate (with the center cut out) to look like a "wreath" by gluing them all together and layering (see above picture for reference). Then take some purple paper to make 3 "candles" and pink paper to make 1 "candle." Finally cut out some "flames" from orange paper and add them each week to celebrate the coming of Christmas! </div>

My mouth is watering just looking at this picture! Easy and delicious, this dessert would be great for Thanksgiving or any other time you want a delicious dessert! Of course this dessert looks super pretty in a trifle bowl, but if you don't have one of those, you can always just use a regular bowl to layer your ingredients. Also keep in mind that if you really want to save time you can buy a pumpkin bread already made in place of baking the bread yourself.</div>

I know the grandparents will both be getting one of these, and I cannot wait to hear the oohs and ahhs! <br />
<br />
Plus, it will be so nice to look back on how little your children's hands were and to see how they've grown, and if you're like me, a few tears may be shed as well! LOL<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is the saying I used to start my project. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I simply chose a font that I liked, and printed it in the </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
center of a plain white piece of computer paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpKc4sxyOamI9RBweor4q3UvZJ-x5H9oxg38dg2acGUPVkKACLiAM2qFK-zPQTOb19cxrhFdaDfTZu0p_rtqO4HcDHy-aGNfFjpedaB6wOwfKghC0_YC42ndULwwWWLoR48jSx0knoX2j0/s1600/142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpKc4sxyOamI9RBweor4q3UvZJ-x5H9oxg38dg2acGUPVkKACLiAM2qFK-zPQTOb19cxrhFdaDfTZu0p_rtqO4HcDHy-aGNfFjpedaB6wOwfKghC0_YC42ndULwwWWLoR48jSx0knoX2j0/s400/142.JPG" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I took brown craft paint, and painted my children's palms and thumbs (one hand at a time of course) and then had them push their hands on either side of the saying.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYb24OvTOppJR5dOtRqVSkcCJvwtEjyuqCLKrYWnUfWCInfr83pm2VUThbCntYG1gRS-OX18M6mvVDTa-FL8trOfE9nSbhXzhZ3zBRD252N0W335IiIvFRXU79hs4A0GB1oz2e72JZ-0r9/s1600/141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYb24OvTOppJR5dOtRqVSkcCJvwtEjyuqCLKrYWnUfWCInfr83pm2VUThbCntYG1gRS-OX18M6mvVDTa-FL8trOfE9nSbhXzhZ3zBRD252N0W335IiIvFRXU79hs4A0GB1oz2e72JZ-0r9/s320/141.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next step was to have each child pick out some feathers they wanted to use for their turkey (the feathers can be purchased at your local craft store, or you could always make feathers out of construction paper. Another cute idea would be to paint each finger a different color, and when your children press their hands down, the fingers will look like the feathers).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoxxjMHuVQY6UqpYMgP4K0t8l1QZzO9OlE_jQP8nuACl5XQDVm_AKhu67UqL8oHobLkZ7p-mVbGiMavwYJu9c-pG8kDYFJfs_Q8Cj4e_K8tuWwePPRm4bGKEl5FoqrF-s1B117XCX0XOE-/s1600/147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoxxjMHuVQY6UqpYMgP4K0t8l1QZzO9OlE_jQP8nuACl5XQDVm_AKhu67UqL8oHobLkZ7p-mVbGiMavwYJu9c-pG8kDYFJfs_Q8Cj4e_K8tuWwePPRm4bGKEl5FoqrF-s1B117XCX0XOE-/s320/147.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then glue on the feathers and let them dry overnight or at least for a couple of hours (I just used Elmer's glue, but you could use a glue gun to help move the process along a bit faster). After the feathers are secured and the glue is dry, have your children help glue on a googly eye, and draw turkey legs, a turkey beak and the waddle (that little red thingy that hangs from the turkey's neck). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once these steps are completed, tape or paste your finished project </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to a nice autumn colored paper of your choosing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In a couple of simple steps, you have a wonderful keepsake to decorate your home year after year!</div>

Since the hurricane, my children have been out of school, so they are definitely starting to get a little antsy (to say the least lol). Today I decided to keep them busy doing some crafts and learning printouts, instead of letting them watch tv all day. <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of my favorite websites to go to for children's printables and crafts is <a href="http://www.dltk-holidays.com/thanksgiving/index.html">DTLK</a>. They have tons that you can do with your children to keep them busy and learn a little something too!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Below is just an example of some of the FREE printables they have - they have all different skill levels depending on what age your children are.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The holidays are right around the corner, so why not get a head start on your holiday shopping? This week through 11/10, Toys R Us is having a HUGE game sale. These games make great gifts! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you spend $35 or more on Hasbro games, you will also walk away with a $10 Toys R Us gift card, or spend $50 or more on Hasbro games and get a $15 Toys R Us gift card! You simply can't beat this deal!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Or better yet, why not consider donating a couple of games to the children who were affected by Hurricane Sandy - many of these children lost everything, and I am sure a game would brighten their spirits. I live in Toms River, one of the areas that was severely affected - many of my friends lost their homes and are basically left with the clothes on their back. If you are interested in donating games, whether or not you live in the area, please contact me and I would be happy to help point you in the right direction. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Thank you for your anticipated generosity!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next time you have a great hardcover book that you are done reading, why not use it for something crafty? If you simply fold each page in half, it basically becomes a photo holder (see picture above), that you can put photos in - you can make one for vacations you've gone on, or a baby one with your children's baby pictures. The possibilities are endless. And of course if you wanted to add a little more flair, you could cover the book with some decorative paper before you add the pictures! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A special thanks to my wonderful cousin April for this crafty and thrifty idea! </div>

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;">What's all the fuss
about quinoa? Below is some more information about this high-protein,
gluten-free super food. It's a great substitute for pasta and rice, and
it is extremely versatile.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">What is quinoa?</span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;">While quinoa is usually
considered to be a while grain, it is actually a seed, but can be prepared like
whole grains such as rice or barely.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>Quinoa
is a wonderful whole grain for three reasons: First, it takes <b style="text-decoration: inherit;">less time to cook than other whole grains</b> –
just 10 to 15 minutes. Second, <b style="text-decoration: inherit;">quinoa
tastes great on its own</b>, unlike other grains such as millet or teff.
Add a bit of olive oil, sea salt and lemon juice and - yum! Finally, of
all the whole grains, quinoa has the highest protein content, so it's perfect for
vegetarians and vegans. <b style="text-decoration: inherit;">Quinoa provides
all 9 essential amino acids</b>, making it a complete protein. Quinoa is a <b style="text-decoration: inherit;">gluten-free and cholesterol-free</b> whole
grain, is<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><b>Kosher for Passover</b>,
and is almost always organic.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">Culinary ethnologists will be interested to know that quinoa
was a staple food for thousands of years in the Andes region of <st1:place w:st="on">South America</st1:place> as one of just a few crops the ancient
Incas cultivated at such high altitude.</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">Cooking quinoa: </span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">Prepare
quinoa as you would prepare rice. Cover it with water or vegetable broth
and boil, then reduce flame to low and cook until soft, about 15 minutes. Or,
place 1 part quinoa to 2 parts water in your rice cooker. Make sure to
cook your quinoa on LOW - very important!!! If you let it simmer on a
hotter flame, the water will absorb too quickly and the quinoa will turn out
hard.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<b style="text-decoration: inherit;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">Nutritional content of quinoa: </span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 10.8pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">According
to <a href="http://caloriecount.about.com/" style="cursor: pointer; font-style: inherit;"><span style="color: #3366cc;">CalorieCount</span></a>, 1/3
cup of cooked quinoa has 160 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber
and <b>6 grams of protein</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<img height="320" src="https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/578549_10151243173475984_1752982364_n.jpg" width="277" />

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is on this day that I remember every year that my problems are not as bad as I think they are. People lost so many loved ones that day - mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers. And unfortunately there are people who are still suffering today with diseases and illnesses due to the conditions at Ground Zero and the willingness to drop everything and help out with the rescue and recovery efforts in NYC. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I will never forget it started out as a beautiful day with clear skies, listening to Howard Stern on my way to work in Weehawken, NJ, when he interrupted his own show to say that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Then seeing the smoke rise as I got there and witnessing the 2nd plane hit is an image that I can never erase from my mind. The panic and fear that set into my heart and the yearning to just get home and see my family. It was a scene out of a movie, people along the river just stopping and staring, me one of them - and then the horror of actually watching the towers collapse....that was such an unspeakable act of terrorism and one that changed our world forever. I am so grateful for men and women who choose to defend our country and freedom and risk their lives to make sure we uphold our beliefs as a country. GOD BLESS AMERICA LAND THAT I LOVE!</div>
